For more than 130 years, Walford Anglican School for Girls has been a leader in girls’ education, developing exceptional young women who thrive during school and beyond. We are proud to be known for strong academic outcomes, exceptional teaching, and a broad co-curricular program that encourages girls to discover their strengths—whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, through music and the arts, or service and leadership roles.
We understand the financial pressures of families choosing a school for their daughter. Scholarships can help alleviate some of that pressure, offering opportunities for girls to attend Walford regardless of their circumstances.
There are a diverse range of scholarships with varying selection criteria that make up Walford’s scholarship program. To assist with navigating the process of applying for a Walford scholarship, our Head of Enrolments, Jade Harvey, has offered her insights.
What information helps make an application stand out?
The strongest scholarship applications are those that provide a clear and well-rounded picture of the student. Information that helps assessors make informed decisions includes academic results, evidence of involvement and achievement in areas such as leadership, sport, music, the arts or community service, and examples that demonstrate character, values, and a willingness to contribute to school life. Thoughtful supporting documentation, genuine personal reflections, and complete, well-prepared applications also help the selection panel understand the student's potential and suitability for the scholarship.
What happens after an application is submitted?
Each application is carefully reviewed against the scholarship criteria and supporting documentation. Short-listed candidates may be invited to attend an interview, complete an assessment, audition, or provide further information, depending on the scholarship category. Following a thorough evaluation process, successful applicants are notified of the outcome and offered a scholarship remission amount determined by the School. As scholarship decisions are made through a rigorous and considered selection process, the outcome and remission awarded are final and not subject to negotiation.
What costs are covered by a scholarship?
Scholarships typically cover a portion of tuition fees, with families remaining responsible for other school-related costs. Families should clarify what is included, such as tuition, and what remains payable, including uniforms, camps, excursions, technology levies, co-curricular activities, music lessons, and boarding fees where applicable.
What should families consider before accepting an offer?
We encourage families to consider the total cost of attendance beyond tuition, the expectations for maintaining the scholarship, and whether the School's values, culture, and opportunities are the right fit for their daughter. It's also important to understand any requirements around academic performance, conduct, participation in School life, and the long-term commitment to remaining at Walford through to Year 12.
How does the School support scholarship recipients once they commence?
Scholarship recipients are supported from the moment they join Walford through the School's strong pastoral care network, academic guidance, and inclusive community culture. As with all students, scholarship recipients are encouraged to engage fully in School life and are provided with opportunities to develop their talents, build connections, and contribute to the community. Staff work closely with students to help them settle into the School, achieve their personal best, and make the most of the educational, co-curricular, leadership, and wellbeing opportunities available to them.
Why a Walford scholarship?
