Life-changing opportunities
Discover how a Walford scholarship can play a pivotal role in encouraging your daughter to be, become, do and achieve her best, her way.
Each year, Walford is pleased to offer a limited number of scholarships that promote academic excellence, foster diversity, recognise students for their individual strengths and talents, and alleviate financial barriers to a Walford education.
Our scholarship offerings allow our students to embrace opportunities and benefit from a personalised learning journey, while coming together in the heart of our school community to share in our values and to live our School motto Virtute et Veritate: Moral Courage and Truth.

About Elizabeth Cleland
Elizabeth Cleland (BSc Hons, MSc) was an exemplary and hard-working Walford student from 1920-1927. She was additionally Captain of School, Captain of Hockey, and an accomplished artist. She was a lover of science, studying Chemistry and Physics at Walford, going on to complete a Bachelor of Science at the University of Adelaide with Honours in Zoology, and being awarded the John Bagot Medal for Botany. Elizabeth then completed her Master of Science, as only the fourth female graduate with that qualification at the time.
In 1936, Walford’s Cleland House was named after Elizabeth and her sister Margaret, with the motto Virtus sola Nobiltat (‘Moral Courage Alone Enables’). In 1991, Elizabeth taught Geology at Walford as an undergraduate and in 2019, the Elizabeth Cleland Chemistry Laboratory was opened in the Ellen Benham Science Centre. Each year, the Elizabeth Cleland Prize is awarded to an outstanding Walford student who plans to undertake study in Chemistry or Biochemistry.
