Secondary School Induction Information

Welcome to the Walford community. We are thrilled your child will be joining us in the Secondary School.

We know that starting at a new school is an exciting milestone for both students and families, and we're here to make the transition as smooth as possible.

This page will guide you through each step of the onboarding process, from completing enrolment requirements and accessing key information to preparing for your child’s first day. Follow the steps below to ensure you have everything you need to begin your Walford journey with confidence.

Communication Platforms

To help you stay connected with your child's learning and school life, Walford uses several communication platforms that provide important information and updates throughout the year.

Walford App

The Walford App is the main source of news and notices during the year. We kindly request that you download it via your device's App Store and search for Walford App.

MyWalford

MyWalford is the hub for school information, communications, reports and more. Enrolling parents or caregivers will have their own MyWalford account.

To access the account, you will need to use the details provided in your onboarding email, which you will receive in mid-January. Please use this link to assist you with logging in.

On your first login you will be prompted to create your own password and setup Multi-Factor Authentication. Please note that until your child commences there will be limited details visible on your MyWalford account.

Support: If you have any problems with setting up your account, please contact our IT Department.

Canvas

Canvas is a learning management system used by Year 4 - Year 12 classes for learning resources, assignment submission, results and class notices.

Secondary School Uniform Requirements

Students from Years 3 to 12 enjoy an academic trans-seasonal mix and match capsule wardrobe collection, plus a Physical Education uniform for their active learning.

Students in Years 7 to 12 wear their PE uniform on the days they have PE classes, all other days they wear their academic uniform. On the first day of School each term, all students wear their academic uniform. We encourage every new student to make an appointment at the School Shop to view the all-seasons wardrobe, in which students select from a capsule collection of interchangeable items.

School Shop

The Walford School Shop stocks the full range of uniform items required by students across all year levels. Future purchases can be made instore or online.

Extended Care - Library Service

The Secondary School Library is open to students from Year 5 through to Year 12 weekdays during the term from 7.45am– 8.10am and 3.30pm until 6.00pm. Students are able to sign into the library where they remain under supervision until collected by their parents. There is no fee for the library service.

Subject Offerings and Pathways

As students move into the Secondary School, they have increasing opportunities to personalise their studies through a diverse range of elective subjects and pathway options designed to support their academic and career aspirations.

Year 7 and 8 Language Elective

As part of the Year 7 and 8 curriculum, students can elect to study Chinese or French and further enrich their educational journey through language and cultural learning.

Year 9 -12 Subject Selection

You and your daughter will be invited to meet with key secondary school staff to discuss subject selections before her commencement. Further information about our subject offerings and pathways can be found here.

Booklists

Walford works with Campion Education for our booklist needs. All items listed are compulsory for each subject being studied. Items marked with a * will not be charged by Campion Education in this booklist total. These items will be charged to your daughter's School Fee Account. Book/Resource Levy (if applicable) will be indicated under subject heading.

Further information regarding booklists and ordering procedures will be emailed to families once they become available towards the conclusion of the current school year.

Devices

To ensure a consistent learning experience and seamless access to the School's digital platforms, Walford is a Mac school. This means your daughter will require a personal Apple MacBook for use at school.

Please refer to our IT requirements page for detailed device specifications and recommendations. This page has recently been updated to reflect Apple's current MacBook models and includes guidance to help families select an appropriate device.

While we provide suggested purchasing options, families are welcome to purchase their MacBook from any retailer. Please note that Windows-based PCs and other non-Apple devices are not compatible with the School's technology environment and are therefore not suitable for student use.

Once purchased, students should book a time to bring it into the IT Department to be set up.

Fig Tree Café

Walford’s Fig Tree Café is located in the heart of the School and offers nutritionally-balanced menu items for recess and lunch purchase. Menu items cater to all dietary requirements and age ranges.

The cafeteria uses the FlexiSchools cashless student account system for online lunch ordering. Orders can be made through the Flexischools App using your child’s ID number to activate their account. Recess and lunch can also be purchased on the day using your child's ID card.

Co-curricular Nominations

Students can participate in a wide variety of co-curricular activities, including sport, music, performing arts, clubs, leadership programs, and community service initiatives. Many offerings for clubs and extended learning opportunities will become available throughout the school year.

Co-curricular nominations will become available once you have access to MyWalford in January.

Staying Connected

We offer many opportunities for families to connect and engage with the Walford community.

Family Mentor Program

To help make your transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible, we will connect you with a current family who will serve as your family mentor. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect, ask questions, and build relationships. This is an optional offering and we will help facilitate this connection for you by the end of the school year.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

Our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) strengthens our school community by encouraging families to get involved through events, volunteering, and engagement programs, helping create a vibrant and connected Walford experience.

WhatsApp Groups

You will be sent a QR code to join your cohort's WhatsApp group in 2027. This is an optional, parent-led form of communication.
