Location and Facilities

Walford has been situated in beautiful Hyde Park for over 100 years and has grown and flourished with the City of Unley. Located at 316 Unley Road, the School is spread over two campuses. The Early Learning Centre and the Junior School are situated on one side of Commercial Road with a crossing to the Middle School and Senior School. The Boarding House is positioned next to the Fig Tree Café which also serves as the boarders’ dining room. The Parks Playing Field and Pavilion are used for girls’ sport and are within walking distance from the School.

Walford has a vision for the facilities required for future-focused learning. Students from ELC – Year 12 thrive in the outstanding facilities that are part of the Walford campus.

Sports Centre

Two full-sized courts, with air-conditioning, a dance centre, spacious fitness room for keen athletes, office space and a spectator area are available within the Sports Centre. An outdoor netball court sits adjacent to the imposing building which fronts onto Unley Road.

Parks Pavilion and Playing Field

Situated at the intersection of Unley Road and Cross Road, a short walk from the School, the playing field is used for girls’ sport as well as the Junior School Sports Day and community events. The new Pavilion provides attractive catering and restroom facilities as well as an undercover viewing platform for cheering spectators and generous equipment storage.

Ellen Benham Science Centre

Five state-of-the-art laboratories have been renovated as bright and modern flexible working spaces that inspire innovation, critical thinking and collaboration. Digital televisions are in each room, along with projectors and whiteboards. The Chemistry laboratory, named to honour Old Scholar, Elizabeth Cleland MSc, is fitted with six moveable fume extractors, VR goggles, 3D printers and drones. Science is fun, rewarding and students thrive on the joy of discovery.

Boarding House

The Boarding House is located on campus for the girls to enjoy the use of all facilities after school hours and on weekends. The swimming pool is much appreciated by the girls in summer. The Fig Tree Café, located next to the boarders’ home-away-from-home, provides the dining room for the boarders’ meals. The House is divided into apartments with kitchenette facilities in each one and a common room area for the girls. Our Walford boarders are very excited that all of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms and all senior girls have their own room.

Reed House

The Junior School campus is enhanced by Reed House, an elegant, heritage villa that was purchased by the School in 1957. Recently renovated, with many of the original features restored, the building accommodates the Head of Junior School and staff room, as well as a music teaching/rehearsal room and an art room.

Helen Reid Hall

The impressive auditorium provides tiered seating and with additional free-standing seating the whole school can attend assemblies and special events. Professional sound and lighting facilities provide an ideal facility for performances, concerts, dance and musical productions. A Green Room is located downstairs and a props and stage maintenance workshop is also included in the plan. A kitchen for extensive catering is also well used by the Parent-Teacher Association and the Old Scholars for events.

Design & Technology Centre

The students and staff love this innovative space that encourages creative learning and problem solving. The new design within an historic home, has created spaces for classroom teaching and individual projects as well as exhibition zones. The original features of the villa, such as the original timber floors and high pressed metal ceilings, add an aesthetic to the new purpose.

St Elizabeth Chapel

The Chapel is a place of worship for staff, students and Old Scholars. The stained glass windows, designed by renowned artist Cedar Prest, depicting the five stages of womanhood, are a magnificent feature.
