For a number of years, Walford has partnered and supported KickStart for Kids, a not-for-profit organisation that helps disadvantaged school children in South Australia achieve positive educational outcomes and increased self-esteem through school breakfast and lunch programs, mentoring programs and our Camp KickStart school holiday care program.
Founded by Ian Steel, KickStart for Kids found through their various programs that girls were missing school or using toilet paper, newspaper or rags due to a lack of access to sanitary items. In June 2021, in a bid to end period poverty in South Australia, their new program KickStart for Kids Against Period Poverty was launched and they began delivering free sanitary.
In 2022, Walford lead the KickStart For Kids Against Period Poverty campaign including collecting sanitary products. The support of the Walford community was overwhelming with hundreds of products donated. We were also able to support TABOO, by purchasing their products through our fundraising and then donating them to Kickstart – double impact!
This year we have committed to help lead another initiative across SA schools and will run a Sanitary product drive in the week of the UN’s World Hygiene Day on Sunday 28 May. Please mark this date in your diary and stay tuned for our events.
In the meantime, when shopping why not pop some sanitary products in your shopping trolley and then drop them in the collection box in the Front Office.
Every little bit helps.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Please don’t hesitate to contact me should you have any queries.
